Easter weekend is upon us and the chocolate eggs will be out. For me, I feel worrying about whether to avoid something, or desperately trying to be good on one day, or weekend in a year is fairly wasteful. The great thing about Health & Fitness is short term events have little to no effect on your overall outcome. The big picture is what always matters.

This year Easter falls at the end of the first quarter of the year. Therefore, a great time to evaluate the bigger picture of what has been happening, rather than worrying about how much chocolate you have or haven’t been eating. There are only so many things that could have happened with your health & fitness in 2026. Take a moment and see which one applies to you:

You’ve Made Good Progress With Your Goals – You had an objective and you showed up with enough consistency to get some results…. Excellent! Now it is the time to cement these results. This could be to just back off to ensure you can maintain what you have achieved so far or perhaps you want to double down and really push on. There is no right or wrong answer, only your long term results will reveal what is best.

I have discussed previously how when losing body fat, the more you lose and faster it comes off, then the more likely you need some sort of break-even period to recharge mentally and physically. However, if things are going great then step it up further! I have often found it is wise to really jump on any waves of momentum that have built up.

You’ve Tried, But Did Not Make Much Progress – Maybe you’ve trained a few times or made better choices with food, but the results haven’t quite followed. If that’s you, don’t panic, this is the most common place to be. Well done on putting in some effort, but you probably need to adjust your approach. I would take this moment to review what went well and then which areas have not been good enough. Avoid just thinking you need to be more motivated, or if only you could stick to your plan. You have had three months to get it done and it hasn’t happened, so something needs adjusting. Sometimes you just need a tiny change to get things progressing, learn a new skill around your behaviours, or perhaps follow a different plan. Check out my book if not done so already which covers all of the factors involved.

You Tried… and It’s Been a Bit of a Disaster – You may have started the year with good intentions, but it did not go as desired. This happens, so do not beat yourself up, illness, stress, injuries, work pressure or a lack of specific health & fitness skills can throw even the best plan out the window. If this has been your experience, don’t quit and write off 2026 just because you had a bad first quarter. Regroup, learn what you can from it and go again. If it was not life circumstances that stopped you then you should look to review alternative approaches to getting to your goals. Perhaps my personal training in Battersea, live video online personal training or my online check in & support coaching, is what you need.

You’ve Yet To Start At All – It is very common for people with goals for the year to not actually take their first step until April or May. This is fine, it is about the results come the end of the year that matters not actually when you start. Now is a great time to prioritise things and get going. Avoid waiting for a ‘perfect’ moment, just start in any form or way that you can, you have waited long enough.

You Don’t Have Any Health & Fitness Goals – This probably applies to the majority of the population, they are floating along without a clear aim or health & fitness goal. There is nothing wrong with this of course, you do not have to take any action around this area. However, your body is still living in the real world, this means that it needs to move to get you places, have enough energy to face life and so forth. You can either be ahead of the curve by taking action around your body or be caught out when the body demands something from you and you are not ready. Perhaps your back really starts to hurt, you do not have fitness to keep up with the kids, your summer clothes don’t fit or perhaps you just do not feel yourself anymore. This is as good a time as any to think about whether there’s any part of this area you would like to improve.

What Does This Mean For You

Whatever category you’re in, the key thing is to move forward from here. We still have three quarters of the year to go, which is plenty of time to make progress, rebuild momentum, or even completely turn things around. What’s your next move?

2026 has been a good year for me fitness wise, the most running I have ever done, averaging 52km a week with two enjoyable Hyrox performances under the belt. I have also cut my phone time down by 25% from cutting out short video content, which I wrote about a few weeks ago.
